’VOICE’ SINGER CHRISTINA GRIMMIE’S FAMILY WILL REFILE LAWSUIT AFTER DISMISSAL
Attorney Brian Caplan said Tuesday that Grimmie’s family will file a new complaint after a Florida judge dismissed the original lawsuit. The judge said the original lawsuit should have done a better job of distinguishing the roles of the two parties being sued. The original lawsuit named tour promoter AEG Live and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra Plaza Foundation, which owns the venue, where Grimmie was shot last summer.
ATTORNEY: PLEA AGREEMENT NEAR IN JEWISH CENTER BOMB PLOT
The attorney for 41-year-old James Medina said in court papers filed Tuesday that negotiations with prosecutors on a proposed guilty plea are nearly complete. Medina previously pleaded not guilty to charges of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and to damage religious property. The FBI says Medina plotted with an undercover informant to bomb the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center in April 2016 during Passover.
SUSPECT IN ’95 BOSNIAN MASS KILLINGS RETURNED TO SERBIA
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said Tuesday in a news release that 44-year-old Srdjan Bilic was flown to Belgrade, Serbia, from Miami International Airport. ICE agents turned him over to Serbian authorities. ICE says Bilic was a member of a Bosnian Serb army brigade implicated in genocide that took place in Srebrenica, Bosnia, in July 1995.
POLICE SHOOT MAN ACCUSED OF STABBING EX-WIFE
The stabbing occurred Monday night, and the shooting occurred early Tuesday morning. Police say officers responded to a residential area, where they found 36-year-old Zuarmis Rubio Gonzalez suffering from multiple stab wounds. Officers began searching the area, but police say 35-year-old Manuel Alvarez returned a short time later and rear-ended a patrol. Authorities say Alvarez got out of his vehicle and lunged at an officer with a knife. The officer fired twice, hitting Alvarez in the shoulder.
FLORIDA MAN GETS LIFE IN PRISON FOR KILLING NEIGHBOR, PASTOR
Andres Avalos Jr. faced execution. The Bradenton Herald (https://bit.ly/2rdo8p9) reports that jurors did not reach a unanimous vote for the death penalty late Monday. Avalos was convicted Saturday of first-degree murder in the deaths of Denise Potter and the Rev. James “Tripp” Battle III in December 2014. He also was convicted of second-degree murder in his wife’s death.
