BARRE, Vt. (AP) - The Rock of Ages granite manufacturing company in Vermont has approved two new contracts for unionized workers hours before the old agreements ended.
The Times Argus (https://bit.ly/2qoCFNA ) reports the company signed deals with members of the Granite Cutters Association and the United Steelworkers of America Local 4.
Union workers returned to Rock of Ages on Monday. According to their contracts, hourly wages will increase by $2.45 over the next four years, with increased health and life insurance benefits.
Both union leaders say they’re pleased with the hard-fought contract negotiation. The negotiations were the company’s first since last year’s merger with Canadian-based Polycor Inc. A message was left with the company Tuesday.
Two more important contracts expire next year, one involving the Rock of Ages quarry workers.
