WASHINGTON (AP) - An inmate was found dead in his cell at a Washington D.C. jail.

Officials from the Washington D.C. Department of Corrections tell local news outlets that they are investigating the death of 28-year-old Kenneth Parker who was found Thursday afternoon.

WRC-TV reports it is the second death at the jail this month and that Parker, who was already imprisoned on unrelated charges, was charged in March with shooting a 9-year-old in October 2014.

After discovering Parker, officers attempted to revive him before Washington firefighters and emergency responders took him to George Washington University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Officials had not released a cause or manner of death.
