ST. LOUIS (AP) - Thunderstorms packing strong winds are blamed for thousands of power outages in Missouri.

Winds of up to 70 mph early Friday were reported in parts of the St. Louis area, where most of the outages occurred. By Friday afternoon, 39,000 customers of Ameren Missouri were still without electricity.

Strong winds also toppled trees in Kansas City. No significant damage or injuries were reported.



Forecasters say more storms are possible through Saturday night.
