PEORIA, Ill. (AP) - Attorneys for former U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock have asked a federal judge to reschedule his trial, citing evidence delays in a case centered on the Illinois Republican’s alleged lavish spending.
The (Peoria) Journal Star (https://bit.ly/2qvRddN ) reports defense attorney George J. Terwilliger on Wednesday asked that the trial set for July be delayed until January. Terwilliger says the government hasn’t handed over all evidence and Schock will likely file more motions.
The request will likely be discussed Friday during a conference call with the judge, who last week doubted the trial would begin in July.
Schock, of Peoria, is accused of illegally seeking reimbursement in government funds for lavish spending, including $5,000 on a chandelier while remodeling his Washington office in the style of the “Downton Abbey” television series.
The once-rising GOP star has pleaded not guilty.
