CICERO, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say 2-year-old twins are in critical condition after they were ejected from their father’s car as it crashed and overturned on a central New York highway.
The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office says 19-year-old Gerald Johnson, of North Syracuse, crashed into the median of Route 481 around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday in the town of Cicero, just north of Syracuse.
Deputies say Johnson’s twins - a boy and a girl - were ejected from the car, with one of the toddlers landing about 20 feet below an overpass.
Officials say both are in critical condition at a Syracuse hospital.
Three other children related to Johnson - ages 6, 13 and 15 - suffered minor injuries.
Police say none of the children were wearing age-appropriate child restraint devices at the time of the crash.
Johnson hasn’t been charged.
