MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Republican Attorney General Brad Schimel says he doesn’t know if a special prosecutor should lead an investigation into Russia’s role in last year’s election.

Schimel’s 2018 opponent, Democrat Josh Kaul, has said a special prosecutor is needed and he wants to know why Schimel won’t join with other attorney generals in calling for one.

Schimel said during a news conference Wednesday to introduce a bill dealing with child neglect that he doesn’t know if a special prosecutor is needed. He says he doesn’t know enough about the circumstances. He added it’s a federal matter and he’s got enough to worry about right here in Wisconsin.
