LOVE BITE? SNAKE BITES FLORIDA MAN WHO TRIES TO KISS IT
News outlets report the unidentified man was bitten on the tongue Tuesday in the Bostwick area and had to be airlifted to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. A friend of the victim says he had been drinking while handling the seemingly calm eastern diamondback. But when he moved toward the reptile as if to kiss it, the snake bit him.
HOUSE SQUATTER ANSWERS DOOR NAKED; WRESTLES WITH DEPUTIES
Monroe County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Becky Herrin says a real estate agent called to report that someone was staying at the home on Big Pine Key without the owner’s permission. Deputy Richard Wang looked in the window and saw 36-year-old Feliciamae Farrington naked. He knocked on the door and she answered, still naked. Farrington refused to get dressed and investigators say she fought with Wang as he tried to take her into custody.
FLORIDA SOBER HOMES OWNER GETS 27+ YEARS’ PRISON FOR FRAUD
A West Palm Beach federal judge imposed the sentence Wednesday on 46-year-old Kenneth Chatman. Some young women were forced into prostitution. Court documents show Chatman admitted making millions of dollars by taking bribes and kickbacks to treat patients, fraudulently billing insurance companies and providing them drugs to addicts so they would relapse - needing even more treatment.
MAN GETS 15 YEARS FOR $33 MILLION INVESTMENT FRAUD SCHEME
A U.S. Department of Justice news release says 44-year-old Navin Xavier was sentenced Monday. He pleaded guilty in January to two counts of wire fraud. A restitution hearing is scheduled for July 14. Court documents show Xavier operated Miami Gardens-based Essex Holdings from 2010 to 2014. An FBI spokesman says many of the scheme’s victims live in Alabama and South Carolina.
FLORIDA AG BONDI GETS KEEP-AWAY ORDER FOR ALLEGED STALKER
A judge in Tampa issued the order Wednesday against William Norman Wilkes. Bondi says he came to her house twice, once banging on her door and peeking in a window at 3 a.m. She said he also sent unwanted Facebook messages. Wilkes agreed in court Wednesday to stay away from Bondi. Wilkes said if Bondi didn’t want to see him, he didn’t want to see her.
