IUKA, Miss. (AP) - The fire that destroyed a house in Burnsville has been ruled arson and authorities say the main suspect died from injuries sustained in the blaze.
Tishomingo County Sheriff John Daugherty tells The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (https://bit.ly/2qfgIjn ) that the house fire was deliberately set Thursday. Evidence at the scene and witness statements pointed investigators toward Ronald Cannon, who was previously in a relationship with the homeowner.
Firefighters responded to the fire and possible explosion around 7 a.m. and located Cannon on the scene. He had suffered severe burns over most of his body and was transported to a burn center in Memphis, where he died.
Daugherty says the homeowner was not home at the time of the fire and has been cleared of any wrongdoing.
