CLARENCE, N.Y. (AP) - Two Vietnam veterans have nearly completed their mission to compile biographical information and photographs for all 450 Americans from western New York who died in the conflict.
WGRZ-TV reports (https://on.wgrz.com/2pE2K6V ) Norm Murray, of Clarence, has been working on the project with Patrick Kavanagh, a researcher with Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo. Kavanagh started working on it a decade ago, when he began searching libraries and old newspaper obituary sections for information.
Murray and Kavanagh say 450 servicemen from western New York died during the war.
They’ve compiled a photo and biographical info on 449 of them. They expect to receive the high school yearbook photo of the 450th serviceman on Monday, when a fundraiser will be held at Sportsmen’s Tavern in Buffalo for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund’s Wall of Faces project in Washington, D.C.
