PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - The University of Southern Maine is hosting a discussion about the rise of fake news and what it means for journalism in the modern era.

The “Examining Fake News” event takes place Friday at 7 a.m. and features David Brancaccio, the morning host of the radio program Marketplace. The university says the event will include a discussion of fake news and what its influence means for both reporters and news consumers.

The conversation will be facilitated by Lisa DeSisto, chief executive officer of MaineToday Media. It is taking place at Hannaford Hall in Portland.
