TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - Primary elections will decide winners the city of Tupelo’s city council and mayoral races.
The Daily Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2oXWhDK ) the Democratic primary in Tupelo will elect the city’s next mayor and one council member.
Mississippi’s system allows voters to participate in any party’s primary but they cannot vote in more than one during the same election.
Voters in Tupelo’s Ward 2 will have to choose either to cast a ballot for mayor or vote in the Republican primary that will decide their city council race. All other voters will only have the Democratic primary to vote in.
In Ward 4 voters will also pick a Democrat who will run against the Republican in their city council election.
Polls are set to be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
