PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire now has a youth poet laureate, a high school senior in Portsmouth.

New Hampshire Public Radio reports (https://bit.ly/2pyBoRq) Ella McGrail’s tenure runs through August.

Alice Fogel, New Hampshire’s current poet laureate, helped create the new designation. She said it’s a way to recognize the work of young writers.

McGrail describes her style as an odd split “between highly political and oddly mystic.” She says she loves politics, but she’s also obsessed with fantasy and novels.

She says she wants to create an online forum for youth to have their work looked at by New Hampshire poets.

The Poetry Society of New Hampshire will seek submissions for McGrail’s successor later this year.
