PHOENIX (AP) - It took nearly seven hours, but Phoenix Fire Department’s technical rescue team has rescued a stranded hiker from the south side of Camelback Mountain.
Fire officials say the 24-year-old man was sitting and unable to move from fear of falling from a small shelf.
The temporary place of refuge was more than 400 feet below the trail in the Echo Canyon area.
Authorities say the hiker apparently slid off the trail late Saturday afternoon and got stuck on the side of the cliff.
The man was safely brought to ground just after 1 a.m. Sunday.
His name hasn’t been released.
Fire officials say more than 40 firefighters were involved in the rescue along with the department’s helicopter.
They say everyone made it down the mountain safely with no injuries reported.
