GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - A 26-year-old man has been found competent to stand trial on charges he fatally stabbed his ex-girlfriend and her mother last year.
Attorneys for Jacob Cayer of Ashwaubenon on Thursday dropped their challenge to a report finding Cayer competent.
WBAY-TV (https://bit.ly/2nQ4OLU ) reports Cayer initially was found incompetent. Last month his attorneys contested a doctor’s report that Cayer is now mentally fit to stand trial. The judge gave defense attorneys 30 days to investigate the doctor’s findings.
Prosecutors allege Cayer fatally stabbed Sabrina Teague and her mother, Heesun “Sunny” Teague, at the Teagues’ home in Hobart last June. Sabrina Teague’s boyfriend was wounded but hit Cayer with a shovel and was able to get away.
Cayer continues to be held on $5 million bond. He’s due back in court April 19.
