PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say a dead body was found in the trunk of a burning car that officers earlier tried to pull over.

Sgt. Vince Lewis says the incident began early Thursday morning when police responded to a call in northeast Phoenix about a person who pointed a gun at someone.

Lewis says the officers spotted the car involved in the incident and tried to pull it over but that it drove off.

He says officers again located the vehicle, finding it on fire and that the occupant or occupants had fled.

The unidentified dead person’s body was discovered when the fire was put out.

Lewis says police continue to investigate and that no additional information is immediately available.
