PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say weather conditions are expected to heighten the wildfire risk in southwestern and south-central Arizona on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service forecasts strong winds and low humidity in southwestern desert areas and along the Colorado River although fuels remain relatively moist.

On the northwest side of the Phoenix area, city of Peoria spokesman Tim Elden says heavy winter rainfall created dense vegetation that contributes to the risk of brush fires.

Elden says high winds can spread a fire from one house to another very quickly.
