JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A Jacksonville man who shot two people, killing one, has been sentenced to life in prison.

The Florida Times-Union (https://goo.gl/QbCFAv ) reports that Ruben Frank Palmer pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree murder and other charges as part of a deal with prosecutors. He had been facing a first-degree murder charge and possible death sentence.

Authorities say Palmer carjacked Walter Nicholson II at gunpoint in December 2012, forced him to withdraw money from a bank machine and then fatally shot him. Two weeks later, Palmer shot and wounded a cab driver during a robbery, and then pistol-whipped a pizza delivery driver several hours after that.
