PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Providence police say a 20-year-old man was shot multiple times near Providence College in house where nearly 300 people were fleeing as officers arrived.
The shooting on Pembroke Avenue was reported shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday.
Police told WPRI-TV that the man is in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital. The Providence Journal reports the victim is Joshua Mendez, whose address was not listed in a police report.
No arrests have been announced.
The house is owned by a company that rents homes to Providence College students. A company manager told the Journal that such large gatherings are not allowed.
Providence College officials said the victim was not a Providence College student.
Residents of the home told police that a man fired a gun and ran out the back door.
