After basking in what has felt like an early spring, the D.C. area is bracing for a touch of winter, with the National Weather Service predicting the season’s first snowfall accumulation for the region.
Beginning at 7 p.m. Monday, snow is expected to begin falling and accumulating between 7 and 9 inches well into Tuesday, the weather service reports.
The heaviest snowfall accumulation is expected northwest of Interstate 95 and Northern Virginia.
Forecasters said there could be some rain at times but most of the precipitation will be sleet or snow. Rain mixed with snow could fall east of I-95 as one approaches the Chesapeake Bay and across Southern Maryland.
No wind warnings have been issued, and wind speeds are expected to be between 10 and 15 mph.
