SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Utah Supreme Court has denied the appeal of a man sentenced to life in prison for a 2007 revenge killing.
The Deseret News reported Friday (https://bit.ly/2ndCEaS ) that the high court upheld the conviction of 32-year-old Anthony James Prater, who shot and killed 35-year-old Vincent Samora. Prosecutors said the drive-by shooting was motivated by testimony Samora provided against Prater’s former cellmate.
Prater’s attorney had argued three witnesses during his trial were problematic. All three said Prater openly confessed to the murder to them.
The Supreme Court ruled that Prater’s arguments about the witnesses did not come close to proving they were blatantly unreliable.
