HIGGINSON, Ark. (AP) - Forecasters say a tornado that hit Higginson in White County had winds up to 110 mph, rating an EF-1 on a scale of tornado damage.

No one was killed in the Tuesday night twister, which came as the National Weather Service office in North Little Rock marked its Severe Weather Awareness Week.

According to the weather service, deaths are rare from Arkansas tornadoes rated EF-1 or lower. Arkansas has had 19 killer tornadoes in the past 10 years, and 17 of them were EF-2 or stronger.



OTHER DETAILS:

-Arkansas’ strongest twister last year was rated EF-2, with winds from 111-135 mph.

-Arkansas’ most recent EF-4 storm hit at Mayflower and Vilonia 2014 and killed 16 people. It had winds approaching 200 mph.

-Sixty-three people have died in Arkansas tornadoes in the last decade - 33 in EF-4s, 15 in EF-3s, 12 in EF-2s and 3 in EF-1s.

-Data from the Storm Prediction Center show that Arkansas has never had an EF-5 tornado, with winds above 200 mph.

-Since the year 2000, 83 percent of Arkansas tornadoes have been rated as EF-1 or EF-0.

-Twenty years ago Wednesday, a tornado outbreak extending from Arkadelphia to near Marmaduke killed 25 people. The outbreak included three EF-4 tornadoes.
