MANCHESTER, Iowa (AP) - A northeast Iowa hospital says the hospital chief executive officer resigned after questions were raised about travel expenses.

The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2mKRrJk ) that CEO Lon Butikofer resigned Friday from Regional Medical Center in Manchester. The hospital said in a statement that the board of trustees had an issue with his travel expense reimbursement.

Butikofer didn’t immediately return a call Wednesday from The Associated Press.

Hospital spokeswoman Valerie Lindsay says there will be a follow-up investigation into the use of hospital funds.
