LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A Nebraska village board member has agreed to pay a $500 civil penalty for violating state disclosure laws.
The Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Commission announced the settlement Friday with South Bend village board member Patrick Cunningham.
The violations stem from a contract between the village and Cunningham’s wife, Deb Cunningham. Deb Cunningham performed the duties of a village clerk as an independent contractor.
Commissioners say Patrick Cunningham failed to list the contract on the village board’s agenda, which he should have done because of his interest in the contract. He also was accused of not properly disclosing his interest in the contract.
Cunningham says he didn’t intend to violate the law, but acknowledges there was sufficient evidence to show that he did.
The commission voted 8-0 to approve the fine.
