TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - A former Florida judge is joining the race to replace Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Ashley Moody, a Republican, announced her candidacy on Monday. She opened her campaign account last week.
Moody resigned earlier this year from her post as a circuit judge in Hillsborough County. She was first elected back in 2006. She worked for the U.S. Attorney’s office as a prosecutor prior to her election.
Bondi is endorsing Moody according to the Tampa Bay Times (https://bit.ly/2szxAR40 ) and said she “wholeheartedly” supports her.
Bondi can’t run for re-election because of term limits.
Moody becomes the second Republican to run for attorney general. Last month Rep. Jay Fant, a Jacksonville Republican, jumped into the contest.
Ryan Torrens, a Democrat and Tampa attorney who handles foreclosure cases, is also running.
