JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - An elderly man is dead after being badly burned in a Florida house fire.

The Florida Times-Union reports that firefighters from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the home Tuesday morning and found the 79-year-old man unconscious inside.

Officials say the man was hospitalized with severe burns and smoke inhalation. His death was announced Wednesday.

A dog was also killed by the blaze, and three other residents have been displaced.
