PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A staffer at the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office has been fired after her arrest on charges of unlawfully accessing state computers and removing data.

Attorney General Peter Kilmartin said 41-year-old Shanice In, of Providence, had been employed at the office’s Bureau of Criminal Identification for about eight months before being terminated.

WPRI-TV reports In cleared the criminal records of two men with extensive criminal histories. In was apparently dating one of the men, the station said, citing the police report.

Kilmartin’s office said the alleged crime was an isolated incident.

In faces unlawful access to a computer for fraudulent purposes and computer trespassing, among other charges. She appeared in District Court Friday and was released pending a Sept. 15 court date.

It’s not immediately clear if she has a lawyer.
