LACOMBE, La. (AP) - The recently closed Louisiana Heart Hospital will become an 85-bed hospital for rehabilitation, skilled nursing and long-term acute care.

That word comes from Ochsner (OX-ner) Health Systems. Ochsner says in a news release that it has an agreement to lease the hospital and will be working with St. Tammany Parish Hospital and Slidell Memorial Hospital at the former heart hospital in Lacombe.

President and CEO Warner Thomas says Ochsner expects to invest nearly $15 million in the hospital over the next five years.

The partnership plans a 30-bed long-term acute care unit, a 25-bed skilled nursing facility and a 30-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit. Plans are to open them over the next 12 to 18 months.
