ODESSA, Texas (AP) - A 23-year-old West Texas man has been arrested and charged with five felonies for a traffic wreck that left three people dead and he and three others hurt.

Odessa police say Mark Garrett was intoxicated and driving at a high rate of speed Thursday night when his car collided with a van, causing both vehicles to erupt in fire. All three people in the van were killed. Their bodies have been taken to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office for identification.

Two of Garrett’s three passengers are hospitalized with serious injuries.

Garrett, whose injuries are not severe, is charged with three counts of intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault. Authorities obtained a blood sample from him for an alcohol test but results have not been immediately released.
