HIGH ISLAND, Texas (AP) - Authorities say a missing elderly man with medical issues has been found dead at a storm-battered Southeast Texas beach and his wife was rescued.

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office says autopsy results are pending on 85-year-old Claude Creduer (kreh-DOOHR’) of Winnie. His 80-year-old wife, Lena, was hospitalized Thursday in fair condition a day after being located near High Island.

Chief Deputy Vic Maceo (MAY’-see-oh) says the couple had dementia issues and foul play isn’t suspected. Maceo says it doesn’t appear Tropical Storm Cindy, downgraded Thursday to a depression, played a role in the death.

Maceo says the couple Tuesday apparently drove 15 miles to the Gulf of Mexico and parked on a dead-end beach road. They were reported missing Tuesday night.

Someone nearby, during Wednesday night’s storm, noticed the couple’s vehicle.
