JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Alaska’s capital of Juneau topped a list of the smallest cities in the United States with the most millionaire households.
Business publication Kiplinger listed Juneau earlier this week as the top small U.S. city with the highest concentration of households with at least $1 million.
Juneau has 1,109 millionaire households out of a total of 12,986, according to the list.
The list is based on rankings of 915 urban areas by Phoenix Marketing International and census data, KTOO.org reported (https://bit.ly/2sUmRTD ).
They defined millionaire households as having $1 million or more in investable assets, excluding real estate, employer-sponsored retirement plans and business partnerships.
This list is limited to micropolitan statistical areas, which are defined as having at least one urban cluster with more than 10,000 residents but less than 50,000.
Juneau has an estimated population of 32,468, according to the United States Census Bureau.
The median income for all households in Juneau is $85,746, while the median home value is $323,500, the list stated.
Groceries alone in Juneau cost one-third more than the U.S. national average, according to the Council for Community and Economic Research’s Cost of Living Index.
Torrington, Connecticut, Williston, North Dakota, Edwards, Colorado and Fredericksburg, Texas, round out the list’s top five smallest U.S. cities with the most millionaire households.
