LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina man who pleaded guilty to a spate of crimes, including assault and robbery, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

The State reports that 11th circuit solicitor Rick Hubbard says 30-year-old James Lee Williams was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to charges that included armed robbery.

In January 2016 Williams broke into a Pelion home. Hubbard says Williams stabbed and used a stun gun on the victim before stealing his car and fleeing. At 4 a.m. the next morning, Williams was caught on surveillance video robbing a Gilbert convenience store.

Williams was caught after a car he was a passenger in led police on a chase. The car crashed, and the driver died on the scene.

Williams previously served eight years for armed robbery and kidnapping.
