Three-time Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis is retiring from the film industry, Variety reported Tuesday.

The 60-year-old British actor confirmed the news through a representative, who did not go into any detail about the matter.

“Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor,” said his spokeswoman Leslee Dart. “He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject.”

Mr. Day-Lewis’ final movie role will be in “Phantom Thread,” a drama set for release on Christmas Day that centers around a dressmaker in 1950s London who is “commissioned to design for members of high society and the royal family,” according to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb).
