AIKEN, S.C. (AP) - An investigation is under way after a South Carolina jail inmate is found dead.
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the local coroner are at work trying to figure out what happened.
Sheriff’s deputies say the death doesn’t appear to be under suspicious circumstances.
A detention officer making a routine check found the inmate unresponsive in a cell. The inmate’s identity is being withheld until family members are notified.
