HOUSTON (AP) - The Harris County sheriff’s office is investigating after an off-duty deputy and her husband restrained a man during an altercation in a parking lot and the man later died.
The sheriff’s office says the 24-year-old who was restrained was taken to a hospital after the Sunday night incident and died Wednesday.
Officials say deputies were told the off-duty deputy’s husband and his children saw the 24-year-old urinating when they pulled into a restaurant parking lot. The husband confronted the 24-year-old and a physical altercation ensued.
Officials say the off-duty deputy then arrived in a separate vehicle and called the sheriff’s office and emergency medical personnel. She then helped her husband restrain the man.
When the man stopped resisting, she and her husband stopped retraining him and noticed he wasn’t breathing.
