BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Forecasters say several rounds of thunderstorms are likely across northern Alabama, and they’ve issued a flash flood watch for the entire area.
The National Weather Service says the watch began Friday morning and continues through Friday night.
The ground is already saturated with water is some areas because of frequent rains. Forecasters say storms could bring an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain Friday, and some areas could get more than 3 inches.
The weather service says the combination of heavy rains and wet soil could lead to flash flooding.
Parts of metro Birmingham already had one round of flooding this week. Forecasters say cities including Birmingham, Decatur, Florence, Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, Anniston, Gadsden, Jasper and Cullman are at risk of additional flash floods.
