SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - The area around a smokestack on a South Carolina trail has been cordoned off after a freelance aerial photographer discovered cracks.

The Spartanburg Herald-Journal reports Greg Wieserman sent a drone with a camera to look at a brick smokestack from a 19th century textile mill on Lawson’s Fork from above. He found deep, 10-foot long cracks and loose bricks atop the 115-foot smokestack located on the Glendale Shoals trail.

He notified Mary Roe, a program director at the Palmetto Conservation Foundation, which manages the trail. Roe says the foundation is seeking cost estimates to stabilize the smokestack, but has closed off its portion of trail with caution tape and plans to build a fence and reroute the trail around the stack.

Wieserman says he hopes the smokestack isn’t taken down.
