HARTLAND, N.Y. (AP) - Police say two people are dead and a third is hospitalized with serious injuries after two vehicles collided at an intersection in western New York.

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office says the accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Quaker and Ridge roads in the rural town of Hartland, 30 miles (48 kilometers) northeast of Buffalo.

Deputies say a southbound vehicle had stopped at a stop sign, then drove into the intersection where it was hit by a westbound vehicle. Police say the driver and rear passenger of the southbound vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names haven’t been released.

The front-seat passenger of the southbound vehicle is in Erie County Medical Center with serious injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle was treated at the scene.
