Brian Goodwin breaks up Alex Meyer’s no-hit bid after Meyer buys him breakfast

Alex Meyer, the former Washington Nationals first-round draft pick and now Los Angeles Angels starter, pitched a stellar game against his former club Wednesday, going seven innings and allowing no runs.

One of the few blemishes on his evening came off the bat of Washington center fielder Brian Goodwin, who was part of the same Nationals’ draft class in 2011 as Meyer and Nationals third baseman Anthony Rendon.

With two outs in the sixth, Meyer still had a no-hit bid intact when Goodwin stepped to the plate and ripped a double down the first base line. 

The moment had some extra sting for Meyer, who just that morning had treated his ex-minor league teammate Goodwin to breakfast.

“I’ll have to talk to him about that,” Meyer said after the game, a lopsided 7-0 Angels victory.
