INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Storms packing heavy rains and strong winds caused road flooding and scattered damage across central Indiana a day after at least two tornadoes hit northern Indiana.
The National Weather Service reported up to 4 inches of rain from Tuesday storms in the state’s midsection. Numerous roads flooded south of Indianapolis, while a retail center along U.S. 31 in the northern suburb of Westfield was closed because of possible roof damage.
No injuries were immediately reported. Monday’s storms swamped many roads in the Kokomo and Logansport areas and flooded Lewis Cass High School and Ivy Tech State College in Kokomo.
The weather service confirmed tornadoes hit Monday evening in rural areas outside Logansport and Peru. Both were EF-1 tornadoes with winds about 90 mph, causing mainly crop and tree damage.
