BEDFORD, N.H. (AP) - Nearly 100 homes in the town of Bedford are being provided bottled water after a potentially cancer-causing chemical was found in private wells near the Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics plant.

WMUR-TV reports the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services has focused on private wells located on two roads in testing for perfluorooctanoic acid, or PFOA.

An additional cluster of 31 homes was added to the bottled water zone when one well recently tested above the acceptable level of the carcinogen.

Department of Environmental Services officials say the well tested close to 90 parts per trillion, which is above the 70 parts-per-trillion limit for PFOA in drinking water.

Saint-Gobain has been paying to provide bottled water to those affected and says it’s analyzing test results.
