ST. ALBANS, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man accused of shooting two people in a truck stopped outside his home and killing one of them has pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

Ethan Gratton appeared in court Tuesday in St. Albans. A judge ruled he would be held without bail pending bail hearing.

The shooting happened Monday in Georgia.

A preliminary investigation shows two Fairfax men were traveling in a truck with a lowboy flatbed trailer attached. The truck was stopped in a roadway near the entrance to the driveway of Gratton’s Georgia home.

Investigators say Gratton confronted the two men and shot them in the roadway.

Authorities say 57-year-old David Hill was found dead. Twenty-seven-year-old Mark Brito was hospitalized in Burlington with life-threatening injuries.

Gratton was taken into custody at the scene.
