LIVERMORE FALLS, Maine (AP) - The state medical examiner’s office says a Maine man died from injuries sustained in a crash, not a medical issue, making it the first highway fatality of the new year.

State police say 41-year-old Shawn Berry, a passenger, started having an apparent medical issue early Sunday. The driver, 27-year-old Brady Romano, pulled over on Route 4 in Livermore Falls and was rear-ended.

Authorities say Berry became unresponsive after the crash.

Troopers are asking the district attorney’s office to review their final crash report after it is completed.
