RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) - A federal bankruptcy judge has agreed to issue a written confirmation order for the city of San Bernardino to emerge from bankruptcy protection.
The Sun newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/2jpObke ) that U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Meredith Jury announced the decision in court in Riverside on Friday.
She did not say when the order will be signed, but attorneys expect the Southern California city will remain in bankruptcy for about two more months.
The newspaper says a handful of creditors are expected to appeal Jury’s decision.
San Bernardino sought bankruptcy protection in 2012 as the city struggled to pay bills and make payroll.
