HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island resident will spend 27 years to life in prison for shooting a man to death during a carjacking attempt.

Tayquan Clark of Roosevelt was sentenced Friday.

The victim, Shawn Boone, was shot in the head in July 2014 in Hempstead.

After the killing, Clark wiped down the inside of the late-model BMW in an attempt to destroy evidence.

Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas says the sentence will ensure that Clark “will pay a heavy price” for “his despicable crime.”
