OGDEN, Utah (AP) - A defense attorney says a plea deal is possible for a 16-year-old girl charged with killing two people in a high-speed crash on the way to carry out a suicide pact.
The Standard-Examiner in Ogden reports lawyer Tara Isaacson said in court Wednesday that she’s discussing a possible resolution with prosecutors.
The Associated Press is not naming the defendant because she’s a minor.
Police say she decided to kill herself by slamming into another car when an officer tried to pull her over. Two people died in the crash.
The teen is facing adult murder charges under Utah laws where prosecutors bypass juvenile court in serious cases against defendants 16 and older.
The defense has argued it’s cruel and unusual for teens to face adult prison time, but the judge upheld the charges.
