LAS VEGAS (AP) - Public safety officials are urging Mount Charleston residents to evacuate due to avalanche risk in the area.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Wednesday (https://bit.ly/2jjnspu ) that a voluntary evacuation notice was issued Tuesday night and the elementary school and library in one part of town were closed Wednesday as a precaution.
about 90 inches of snow have accumulated in the area after last weekend’s storms and officials are worried about slides.
Metropolitan Police Department Sgt. Matthew Marlow says volunteers made contact with residents of the area and informed them of the avalanche risk, leaving notice when no one could be reached. Only five people contacted Wednesday agreed to leave their homes.
