TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - Tupelo Regional Airport officials say they plan to hire a director of operations, a position that has gone unfilled for about three years.
The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2j55oEE ) that the Federal Aviation Administration recently inspected the airport and raised concerns about the responsibilities of personnel and work distribution.
The newspaper reports that the airport authority board on Tuesday met privately to discuss a letter of investigation from the FAA. The letter’s contents were not revealed.
Airport Executive Director Cliff Nash the safety at the airport is not in question.
Nash said an operations director would pick up some of the duties he and his administrative assistant have assumed, as the FAA was concerned about their workload.
The airport board hopes to fill the position by spring.
