SALEM, Mass. (AP) - A former Marine from Haverhill has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter for the shooting death of a friend.
Ross Tucker was convicted Monday by a Salem Superior Court jury in the February killing of 25-year-old Eric Benedict. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 9.
Prosecutors say the 23-year-old Tucker had been drinking and smoking marijuana when he brought his gun to a gathering of several friends and was playing “show and tell” with it, passing it around, when he pointed it at Benedict. Benedict was shot in the head.
The Eagle-Tribune (https://bit.ly/2jmYPeU ) reports that Tucker’s attorney argued that there were was no evidence Tucker pulled the trigger and said Benedict shot himself.
But prosecutors pointed out that Tucker made incriminating statements to police, including “My life is over.”
