ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The State Prosecutor has filed a $3,000 fine charging a political slate of making an “unlawful” loan to Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh’s primary campaign.
The Baltimore Sun reports (https://bsun.md/2jU2thC ) that an investigator filed the fine in Anne Arundel County District Court, charging the Baltimore County Victory Slate. Prosecutors say Pugh’s campaign wasn’t entitled to the $100,000 loan before the April Democratic primary since she wasn’t a slate member. She has repaid the loan.
The slate is funded by the campaign account of former Baltimore County Executive James Smith Jr., who’s now Pugh’s chief of strategic alliances. A spokesman for the mayor didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Pugh’s longtime aide, Gary Brown Jr., was indicted this month on charges that he violated campaign finance laws during the primary.
